OEM Lincoln Brake Pads

As much fun as it is to get your Lincoln sedan or SUV up to speed, you also need to be able to stop when and where you want. That's the job of the factory installed braking system. While the system is composed of a number of parts, there are three major ones. Those are your calipers, brake pads, and rotors.

How Your Brakes Work

When you press the brake pedal, that forces brake fluid out of the master cylinder and into the calipers. The calipers respond to that pressure by clamping the brake pads onto the rotors, producing the resistance required to slow your wheels. The pads are there to protect against metal-on-metal contact between the calipers and rotors, since that would cause significant damage.

Signs of Failing Brake Pads

All of the heat and pressure caused during braking can eventually take a toll on your brake pads, though. If they start to go bad, you may experience:

  • A bouncing or vibrating brake pedal
  • Needing more time and distance to stop
  • Grinding, squeaking, or squealing noises when you brake

You can expect to get up to 70,000 miles from one set of brake pads, but traffic conditions and your driving style can affect that number. When it is time to replace yours, do so in sets, either front or back, to ensure even performance. You also want to make sure to use the best brake pads for your model.
